Rhinoplasty and Septoplasty
In many patients, a deviation of the midline, called the septum, of the nose is present causing the sensation of stuffiness. Frequently the stuffiness is worse with mild allergies or a cold and can be the cause of sinus headaches. If this is your problem, a separate procedure, performed separately or at the same time as a rhinoplasty, can generally eliminate this obstruction. This procedure is called a septoplasty. Sometimes other structures in the nose, such as enlarged turbinates or polyps, may contribute to the obstruction. If this is the case they can be dealt with surgically.
No surgery is risk free. Rhinoplasty, like any elective cosmetic procedure, carries the risk of complications.
